A new report suggests that a full 10% of Irish people should be eating marshmallow at some point in their life.
The report, released this week by the Irish Times, analysed the social attitudes towards eating marshmallows, which have been rising in popularity in recent years, and came to the conclusion that they should be eaten by at least 20% of people by the end of the year.
The Irish Times says that the report comes as the Irish Government is looking at whether it can make the use of the spread more socially acceptable.
In a statement, the Department of Social Protection said it wanted to encourage people to be active with their eating habits and it is working to improve the quality of life for the people of Ireland.
“The Department of Health has made progress in developing the new food guidance, and as a result it is now taking action to make marshmills and other healthier foods more readily available to the Irish population,” it said.
“In addition, the government has also launched a campaign to help people become more active in their socialising and eating habits.
We are committed to encouraging the consumption of healthy food in a more socially responsible manner.”
