In North Korea, the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s first official public appearance since being sworn in as the country’s first female leader has been a big deal.
His speech, delivered in front of a cheering crowd in the Chinese capital, was the most anticipated since he took power following his grandfather’s death in December.
He took the stage to a standing ovation from the audience, who chanted “Long live the supreme leader!”
“Long Live the supreme president!” he shouted.
The audience also chanted “Trump, Trump, Trump!” and “Kim Jong-Un, Kim, Kim!”
It was the loudest, most prolonged rendition of the traditional Chinese chant since Kim’s father Kim Jong Il passed away in December and died three months later.
It came as North Korea is still reeling from the death of his father Kim, who died at age 90 on February 12, 2017.
The two leaders had a bitter rivalry for decades, and tensions have risen between them since Kim took power.
Trump, for his part, has called the North’s leader “Rocket Man” and has called for his immediate removal.
North Korea has repeatedly called Trump’s rhetoric “treasonous,” and has accused him of orchestrating the death threats against Kim.
The United States and the United Nations have repeatedly condemned the North for its continued development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
While the North may not have the power of the United States, its regime is capable of devastating and destabilizing the United State.
It also threatens the entire world, and is a threat to U.S. interests around the globe.
